The Yogic Studies courses are not just for people wanting to become yoga teachers. They have been designed to provide a thorough grounding in yogic theory and a systematic progression through the vast array of practices that collectively make up what is known as Satyananda Yoga. For some people it is enough to regularly attend a weekly yoga class but for those who want to dig deep then Yogic Studies is certainly the way.
Yogic Studies provides not just an in-depth exploration of all aspects of yoga: it initiates a profoundly transforming experience within the student, bringing a greater awareness and understanding of the mind, emotions, motivations and responses.
The Yogic Studies program is broken into four modules of around five months each. All the modules commence with a two week residential intensive in which the concepts and practices for that module are worked through. The remainder of the course can be done from home or whilst living in the centre.
Each week the student has a prescribed selection of practices to explore and learn and a certain amount of reading and writing on the concepts that underpin these practices. Work is submitted weekly and assessment and feedback is continuous. The outcome of this process of study and practice over two years is that the student gains a thorough grounding in yogic theory and establishes a strong foundation for an ongoing daily practice.
