"Ostensibly I chose to come to a 7 night Yoga Lifestyle Retreat because I found myself in the grip of the lifestyle ‘mishaps’ that afflict many of us. I was overly busy, never seeming to get ahead of a continuously multiplying list of high priority tasks. Stress had stealthily crept into the places normally held for pleasure and recharging: eating, sleeping and spending time with loved ones. Based on the description I read on the website, I thought Yoga Lifestyle might be a brief antidote to this situation; a week-long respite to catch my breath in an environment where rest and activity give a lovely balance to the daily routine and yoga practices. On these retreats one is involved in the daily tasks in the morning only. The afternoon is then free for walking in nature, reading, personal practices and most of all catching up with oneself.
I was vaguely aware that I also held another level of interest in travelling to Rocklyn to attend Yoga Lifestyle. This level reflected my propensity for endlessly probing human existence for signs of our innate genius at discovering meaning and means to enrich life. My interest was profoundly rewarded at Rocklyn. I was enthralled to encounter a community dedicated to living with practices promoting higher states of consciousness; being guided by insights which reflected an obvious connection to a tradition and search for truthful essence.
So in my week at Rocklyn, I calmed down immensely. My health flourished from the fresh air, karma yoga – joyfully participating in the mornings with the community residents, deep sleeps and abundant and exquisitely nourishing meals from the veggie garden. Daily yoga practice created physical release and physical ease, while my spirit soared from regular meditation, guided relaxation and the deeply effective (and new to me) practice of chanting Sanskrit mantras. And if this wasn’t enough, the daily teaching sessions based on the book ‘Yoga with Attitude’ assisted me to look at how I could better manage my own well-being in my chosen lifestyle."
